The Apurva Kempinski Bali is a monumental 14-hectare clifftop resort located in the prestigious Sawangan neighborhood of Nusa Dua, commanding uninterrupted panoramic views over the Indian Ocean. Dramatically cascading down a lush hillside toward a pristine white-sand beachfront, the resort is conceived as a destination in itself—an architectural landmark that seamlessly integrates landscape, heritage, and contemporary luxury. Strategically positioned for both leisure and business travelers, the property is approximately 15–16 minutes (around 16 kilometers) from Ngurah Rai International Airport via the toll road. It is also within a three-minute drive of the Bali National Golf Club, close to the upscale retail and dining precinct of Bali Collection, and adjacent to the Bali International Convention Centre, reinforcing its dual appeal as a luxury retreat and a premier event destination.
Envisioned as a “majestic open-air theatre,” the architectural concept was masterfully realized by architect Budiman Hendropurnomo of Denton Corker Marshall, in collaboration with Trivium Design Group. The design draws profound inspiration from Indonesia’s golden era, particularly the legacy of the Majapahit Empire, translating historical grandeur into a contemporary resort language. The arrival experience unfolds through a soaring pendopo-style lobby elevated above the ocean horizon, where hand-carved Javanese gebyok partitions, intricate wood craftsmanship, and reflective Labradorite granite floors create a ceremonial spatial sequence. The resort’s terraced composition mirrors Bali’s iconic rice fields, while a dramatic 250-step grand staircase—symbolically inspired by the sacred Pura Besakih—forms the spine of the property, functioning both as a central circulation axis and as a stage for cultural rituals and performances. Interwoven waterways reference the ancient subak irrigation system, grounding the masterplan in the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, which emphasizes harmony between the divine, humanity, and nature.
Developed by PT. Teluk Agung Alami, a subsidiary of the Wings Group led by William Katuari, the project reflects a long-term vision to curate a hospitality masterpiece that celebrates Indonesia’s cultural identity on a global stage. The collaboration between the developer, architect, and interior designer Rudy Dodo resulted in a resort that harmonizes monumental scale with refined detailing, balancing authenticity and modern sophistication. This successful partnership has since expanded into future developments, including The Apurva Kempinski Lombok and The Apurva Kempinski Ubud, further extending the brand’s architectural narrative across Indonesia.
The resort comprises 475 accommodations, including 256 Grand Deluxe Rooms ranging from 65 to 80 square meters, 176 suites, and 43 exclusive villas, with approximately 60 percent of all units featuring private plunge pools that blur the boundary between interior and oceanfront landscape. Premium facilities reinforce its positioning as a world-class luxury destination: eight distinct dining venues—including Koral, Bali’s first aquarium restaurant, and Pala Restaurant & Rooftop Bar with interactive live cooking stations—offer immersive culinary experiences. Wellness and recreation are anchored by a 60-metre main swimming pool overlooking the sea, a dedicated children’s pool, a luxury family club, and the Apurva Spa, which delivers Javanese-inspired treatments within a serene, ritualistic setting. For events and celebrations, the resort features a 1,076-square-metre pillarless Grand Ballroom with ocean views, a 2,200-square-metre oceanfront lawn, and three dedicated wedding chapels, highlighted by the 100-seat glass-fronted Apurva Chapel. Modern guestroom amenities include 55-inch flat-screen televisions, marble bathrooms with separate rain showers, and advanced Vimar energy management systems ensuring precision control of lighting and climate.
Altogether, The Apurva Kempinski Bali stands not merely as a luxury resort, but as a carefully choreographed architectural journey—where topography, heritage, craftsmanship, and contemporary engineering converge to create a landmark destination that embodies Indonesia’s cultural grandeur within a refined global hospitality framework.
