Scheduled to debut within the historic walls of the iconic Whiteley building in Bayswater, Six Senses London is envisioned as a transformative sanctuary centered profoundly on the concept of "connectivity." This ambitious project seeks to seamlessly fuse holistic human wellness with the natural world, all while honoring the site's rich urban heritage. Under the visionary direction of design firm AvroKO and EPR Architects, the interior philosophy masterfully intertwines Art Deco nostalgia with refined post-Victorian aesthetics, drawing deep inspiration from the botanical marvels and innovation of the original 1851 Great Exhibition. By adopting a heavily "biophilic" approach, the design team utilizes imaginative indoor planting, richly textured reclaimed wood, and organic, tactile materials to cultivate a truly "human-paced" environment. This intentional design serves as a soothing, grounding counterbalance to the frantic, relentless energy of London's bustling streets just outside its doors.
The architectural grandeur of the property is perhaps best exemplified by the meticulous restoration of its Grade II-listed facade and the introduction of a breathtaking internal staircase, carefully modeled after the elegance of Milan's legendary La Scala. The spatial journey through the hotel and its sprawling 2,300-square-meter spa is deliberately crafted to mirror London’s own "layered energy." Guests will experience a seamless transition from vibrant, highly social street-level gathering zones down into restorative spaces characterized by a profound, "vaulted calm," evoking the quiet, subterranean mystique of old underground stations. Moving into the private quarters, the guest rooms are enveloped in a "grounded palette" of earthy tones, featuring unique in-room meditation channels that broadcast mesmerizing time-lapses of nature to actively encourage mindfulness and reflection. Furthermore, the property's innovative Earth Lab serves as a tangible, physical manifestation of the Six Senses brand’s unwavering commitment to circularity, sustainable living, and responsible local sourcing.
Slated to open its doors to the public in early 2026, Six Senses London represents a monumental collaborative effort to breathe new life into the beloved former Whiteleys department store. The comprehensive masterplan for this monumental revitalization was expertly drafted by the globally renowned architectural firm Foster + Partners, who focused on striking a delicate balance between preserving the building's cherished heritage and thoroughly modernizing it for contemporary luxury use. The development itself has been spearheaded by Finchatton, acting as the primary development manager, in a robust partnership with prominent investment firms MARK and C C Land. In a testament to the project's massive appeal and potential, the hotel component was acquired in May 2024 by the prestigious Italian real estate group Gruppo Statuto for an impressive £180 million. Despite this change in ownership, Six Senses has secured a steadfast, long-term agreement to brand, manage, and infuse the property with its signature wellness-centric hospitality for decades to come.
