Verdant Verandahs House / HYLA Architects

Text description provided by the architects. More than just a screen for privacy and sun-protection, the concrete brise-soleil captures and intensifies nature along the perimeter of the house – a series of lush, landscaped verandahs immediately adjacent to the indoor spaces. Every single room at the upper levels looks into its very own private garden; one with a semi-outdoor bathtub that is literally outside, yet visually protected and well sheltered from the elements.

The pattern of the screen follows an underlying grid, but skips certain intervals to produce a composition with rhythm and a more asymmetric sense of balance. Other parts of the screen also form planter boxes, allowing more layers of green to grow and slowly reveal itself over the concrete.

Landscaping continues into other parts of the house. A courtyard at the second storey next to the staircase allows air and light into the central part of the house. The blues and greens from the pool and the heavy planting along side dominates the main living spaces on the ground floor, again celebrating nature as an integral part of one’s dwelling place.

Atlas Bar Singapore is located in Parkview Square

The Art Deco Atlas Bar has a high central drinks tower that reaches up to the ceiling;  located in the Parkview Square building in Singapore.

Atlas Bar in Singapore is located in the Parkview Square building.  The establishment is in high demand due to its Art Deco style and magnificent gin and champagne collections, which are considered the best in the world.

It was once a lobby bar then called Divine Wine Extraordinaire, which boasted a massive wine bar with a very impressive wine list and a lot of visitors.  Today, the bar has been expertly transformed into a modern drinking establishment, renovated and renamed Atlas Bar.  The renowned premises were renovated by the local architectural company Proof & Companу.

The huge wine cabinet has been replaced with a similar one and now holds over 1,000 bottles of gin.  Obviously, this is the largest collection in the world.  Indeed, the owners have something to brag about, because this fact alone makes Atlas Bar one of the leading establishments.

In addition, at the bottom of the vertical bar there is another one, against a pink background of which there is a collection of more than 250 types of champagne.  The bar is decorated in golden tones with intricate arched ceilings, backlit by numerous lights.  There are many paintings on the ceilings depicting battle scenes.  The bar is incredibly loaded with gilded architectural details.

Gold, burgundy and blue should have become the hallmark of this bar, if not for the abundance of gilding and golden shine.  Marble tables, frescoes and bas-reliefs depicting scenes from Egyptian life speak of a huge investment in interior decoration and decoration.

The building behind the sophisticated bar houses the Vicky Hwang holding, which runs the business, Chyau Fwu, the development director who owns the Parkview Square building, and many other large global holdings.  Vicky Hwang is the third of nine granddaughters and five grandchildren of the late Patriarch C S Hwang, a prominent real estate tycoon and chairman of Chyau Fwu Development.

Vicky Hwang's refurbishment of the bar leaves an overall sense of intact the main design concept that was here before.  So the grandiose splendor of the alcoholic establishment is not lost, although the space has actually been seriously renovated.
