The Museum of the Future in Dubai

The Museum is a home for inspiration, open to all. We represent the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum showing what is possible with conviction, commitment and togetherness. Our goal is to provide light in dark times: in an age of anxiety and cynicism about the future, we are showing that things can and must progress.

Our imagined futures are fundamentally hopeful, but honest about the dangers of the present. In our exhibitions, publications, films and public events, we will show how the problems of the present can provide the raw material for a better world.

The Museum of the Future in Dubai is a visionary cultural landmark and architectural marvel dedicated to exploring the possibilities of tomorrow rather than preserving the past. Described as a "living museum," it serves as a gateway to the future, blending immersive theater, advanced technology, and themed attractions to showcase innovative solutions for a sustainable world. Its iconic torus-shaped building, adorned with Arabic calligraphy, symbolizes humanity, the earth, and the unknown, standing as a beacon of hope and optimism intended to inspire visitors to actively shape the next chapter of human progress.

The Museum of the Future offers a "living" experience that transports visitors to the year 2071, beginning with a simulated ascent to the OSS Hope space station on the fifth floor, where guests can gaze back at a transformed Earth and explore the potential of space colonization. The journey descends through the HEAL Institute, a mixed-reality recreation of the Amazon rainforest featuring a DNA library of over 2,400 species, and continues to Al Waha (The Oasis), a sanctuary dedicated to mental wellness and disconnecting from technology. Lower levels include Tomorrow Today, which showcases near-future innovations in health, transport, and energy, and Future Heroes, a dedicated, screen-free landscape where children engage in mission-based challenges to build future skills.

Architecturally, the building is as significant as its contents, standing 77 meters tall with no internal columns—a feat of modern engineering. Its stainless steel façade consists of 1,024 robotically manufactured panels, representing the number of bytes in a kilobyte, and is illuminated by 14 kilometers of LED lights. The exterior is wrapped in Arabic calligraphy featuring three quotes by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, including the famous line: "The future belongs to those who can imagine it, design it, and execute it." Beyond its beauty, the museum is a model of sustainability, powered by 4,000 megawatts of solar energy and achieving LEED Platinum status.

Beyond its exhibitions, the Museum of the Future operates as a hub for advanced robotics and intellectual debate. Guests are often greeted by Ameca, one of the world's most advanced humanoid robots, which can engage in conversation and display lifelike facial expressions. The museum also features a robotic barista in its café, Bob, who prepares coffee with a robotic arm, blending culinary culture with automation.
The institution acts as a global incubator for futurists through the Dubai Future Foundation. It hosts the annual Dubai Future Forum, the world’s largest gathering of futurists, and serves as the headquarters for the "Great Arab Minds" initiative, which aims to identify and empower the region's top intellectual talent.
For a unique perspective, visitors can step out onto the viewing deck located within the "void" of the building's curve. This space allows guests to stand on the inner shell of the structure, offering a stark visual contrast between the museum's futuristic stainless steel calligraphy and the modern skyline of Sheikh Zayed Road below.

The architectural masterpiece was designed by Killa Design, led by Shaun Killa, who envisioned the building's iconic torus shape to represent the solid mass of the earth and humanity, while the central void symbolizes the unknown future. To realize this complex, column-free geometry, the architects collaborated with engineering consultancy Buro Happold, utilizing advanced parametric design and Building Information Modelling (BIM) to optimize the steel diagrid structure. The shimmering façade is comprised of 1,024 unique stainless steel composite panels—manufactured by robots—which serve as a canvas for the artistic calligraphy of Emirati artist Mattar Bin Lahej, turning the building's exterior into a monumental fusion of poetry, art, and cutting-edge engineering.

The Mandarin Oriental Downtown, Dubai

The Mandarin Oriental Downtown, Dubai, is situated in the heart of the city within the architecturally striking Wasl Tower, which features the region's tallest ceramic façade. This central location provides guests with convenient access to major landmarks like the Dubai Mall (a 15-minute walk), Sheikh Zayed Road, the Dubai World Trade Centre, and City Walk, while being a roughly 15-minute drive from Dubai International Airport.

The Mandarin Oriental Downtown, Dubai, is a seamless integration of sustainable architecture, the brand's signature Asian heritage, and a deep respect for the local Emirati culture. Housed within the iconic Wasl Tower, designed by UNStudio and engineered by Werner Sobek, the building's distinctive twisting form and the region's tallest ceramic façade are engineering marvels that serve a practical, eco-conscious purpose: the innovative ceramic fins optimize airflow to create a natural cooling system, reducing energy consumption.
Inside, the London-based G.A Group created interiors that blend the dynamic energy of Downtown Dubai with the serenity of Mandarin Oriental's Eastern roots. The design narrative is one of "quiet luxury," featuring warm, understated palettes inspired by the desert landscape—ochres, bronzes, and sands—tactile materials, and bespoke furnishings. This design philosophy extends to the hotel's unique, locally inspired signature fan, crafted from eleven shades of camel hide by Emirati artist Zeinab Alhashemi, symbolizing the convergence of tradition and innovation, culture and craft. The result is a vertical boulevard and urban ecosystem where architecture, art, and lifestyle align in a sophisticated and sustainable manner

The architectural design of the Mandarin Oriental Downtown, Dubai, is a masterpiece by the Dutch firm UNStudio, engineered in collaboration with Werner Sobek. Their vision was to create a sustainable, landmark "vertical city" that integrates with the urban experience while responding to the unique desert climate. The tower's instantly recognizable, elegant twisting form is a visual gesture that celebrates movement and innovation, inspired by the classical contrapposto posture in art.

The core architectural theory is based on environmental performance: the building features the region's tallest ceramic façade, consisting of innovative fins that are precisely angled to optimize airflow for natural cooling and reduce solar gain. This passive cooling system significantly lowers the building's energy consumption, setting a new standard for sustainable high-rise design. Architect Ben van Berkel emphasized creating a dedicated concept of health, comfort, and well-being throughout the building, with a unique "vertical boulevard" of stacked outdoor balconies and green terraces that integrate nature into the high-rise environment.

The Mandarin Oriental Downtown, Dubai was developed in partnership with the Wasl Asset Management Group. Wasl is a major real estate development company in Dubai, and the hotel is located within their architecturally significant Wasl Tower on Sheikh Zayed Road. The Wasl Tower itself is a 64-story, mixed-use skyscraper renowned for its distinctive twisting form and the region's tallest ceramic façade. The tower was designed by the architectural firm UNStudio and engineered by Werner Sobek, incorporating innovative ceramic fins for energy efficiency and natural cooling, aligning with sustainable design principles. This property marks the second collaboration between Mandarin Oriental and Wasl Group, following the successful launch of the Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, Dubai, in 2019. The new downtown location, which opened in November 2025,

The Mandarin Oriental Downtown, Dubai, features 259 elegantly designed rooms and suites within the iconic Wasl Tower. The hotel also includes 224 exclusive private residences, offering breathtaking views of the city skyline, including the Burj Khalifa, and the Arabian Gulf.

The hotel offers ten restaurants, lounges, and bars, with currently open venues including the modern Chinese bar and restaurant Yù & Mì, the Italian restaurant Chitarra, and the Greek-inspired poolside rooftop venue Noia by the Pool. Future dining options will include the celebrated Nikkei concept Osaka, Billionaire, Lion in the Sun, and Pavyllon Dubai by Chef Yannick Alléno.

Wellness facilities, known as Wellness at Mandarin Oriental Downtown, Dubai, span two floors and feature a signature spa with nine treatment rooms, two couples' suites, a VIP suite with a hammam, vitality pools, saunas, and steam rooms. There is also a comprehensive fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment and a landscaped pool terrace with a 25-meter lap pool, leisure pool, and dedicated kids' pool.

For events, the hotel provides over 2,000 square meters of flexible space, including the 1,000-square-meter Oriental Ballroom and eight meeting rooms. Guests with access can also enjoy the exclusive all-day haven of The Club Lounge. A purpose-built kids' club, Hana & Friends, is also available for younger guests.
