Kempinski Laje de Pedra is located in the scenic town of Canela, Brazil, perched on a cliff with stunning views of the Quilombo Valley. Originally designed by Edgar Graeff and opened in 1978, this iconic hotel is undergoing an extensive renovation led by the architectural firm Perkins&Will. The interior renovation is being designed by Anastassiadis Architects, with landscaping by Sergio Santana.
The updated facilities will include four restaurants, five bars, a rooftop bar with panoramic views, a comprehensive spa with an indoor lap pool, an infinity pool, a children's area, a 1,000 square meter gym, a 2,500 square meter convention center, and a 350-seat theater. The hotel will feature 366 apartments and ultra-premium private residences with six-star hotel services, aiming to blend luxury with cultural immersion and position Canela within the luxury destination circuit
Kempinski Laje de Pedra is being developed by LDP Canela Empreendimentos e Participações S/A, which purchased the property following its closure in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The extensive renovation and modernization project is a significant investment aimed at revitalizing the iconic hotel and generating jobs in the Canela region. The project involves a substantial financial commitment to transform the property into a luxurious destination within the Kempinski Hotels portfolio, blending modern amenities with the hotel's historical and cultural significance. This ambitious redevelopment is part of Kempinski's strategy to enter the South American market, enhancing the hotel’s reputation and positioning Canela as a high-end tourism destination.
