Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur hotel

Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur hotel is developed and owned by Tradewinds Corporation Berhad and managed by Hilton. It is Waldorf Astoria's first property in Malaysia, and it was scheduled to open on 30 October 2026.

The address is 73 Jalan Raja Chulan, Bukit Bintang, in the centre of Kuala Lumpur's Golden Triangle, close to the Petronas Twin Towers and Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. This is an adaptive-reuse project. The 2.92-acre site was formerly the landmark Hotel Istana, which closed in September 2021 after 29 years in operation.

Design team: Tradewinds appointed LW Design's Hong Kong studio to design the hotel. Hilton has also worked with Deboss Collective alongside LW Design Group on the property.

This is the rebirth of a heritage address, LW Design based the design language on classical principles, with proportion and symmetry as the priority, then reinterpreted them through a modern approach and a fresh contemporary palette. The concept combines grand architectural proportions and lofty interiors with subtle references to local cultural traditions. In practice, mashrabiya screen patterns appear throughout the public spaces, and a feature timber wall graphically depicts the map of Kuala Lumpur. In the dining room, a sage-green ceiling expresses an indoor-outdoor concept. The service philosophy follows the same idea. The hotel calls it "Layan Tetamu," a reimagined Malaysian approach to hospitality built on sincerity, intuition and personalised service.

All 268 keys are suites, ranging from 80 m² one-bedroom suites up to the 745 m² Waldorf Astoria Suite, all with floor-to-ceiling views of the skyline. Dining includes concepts created with chefs Garima Arora and Jean-Georges Vongerichten, among them JG KL, along with Peacock Alley, the brand's signature lounge and bar. For wellness, there is the Waldorf Astoria Spa, a modern wellness centre and an outdoor swimming pool. Event space totals 3,745 m², anchored by a 1,545 m² pillarless Grand Ballroom and an Executive Hub of private boardrooms.
