In 2025, the historic Majestic Hotel Saigon celebrated its momentous 100-year anniversary, marking a full century as an iconic landmark on the banks of the Saigon River. Established in 1925 by the wealthy Chinese businessman Bùi Hồn Hoa (known as Uncle Hoa), the hotel quickly became a beacon of luxury and elegance in the "Pearl of the Orient". Through decades of historical change, war, and peace, the Majestic has retained its classic French colonial architecture and charm, adapting to the times while preserving its legacy.
The centenary celebration, themed "A Century Journey, Elevating Our Heritage," highlighted the hotel's enduring commitment to providing exceptional hospitality with a blend of historical grandeur and modern luxury. Today, the five-star hotel remains a premier destination for both international and domestic travelers, offering lavish accommodations, exquisite dining options like the Breeze Sky Bar, and a storied history that makes it one of Vietnam's most beloved and enduring hospitality icons
The Majestic Hotel Saigon was originally designed in a French Colonial and classical French Riviera architectural style. The initial design, commissioned by local Chinese businessman Hui Bon Hoa in 1925, featured four stories and 44 bedrooms. The name of the original French architect is not widely specified in historical records, though one source presumes the architect was a Frenchman named Rivera, who died before 1973.
Over the decades, the hotel has undergone several expansions and renovations, with a notable addition in 1965 where two more stories were added based on the design of Vietnamese architect Ngo Viet Thu. A major renovation in 1994 aimed to restore and preserve the original French Colonial style while upgrading the hotel to a five-star standard. Today, the hotel remains a landmark known for its elegant, historic charm that blends classical design with luxurious modern amenities, overlooking the Saigon River.
