The St. Regis Osaka is a landmark of luxury hospitality situated along the heart of Midosuji, a ginkgo tree-lined boulevard widely regarded as the Champs-Élysées of Osaka . The hotel stands 27 stories above Midosuji Avenue and opened in October 2010 as the first international luxury hotel to open in the city in 13 years. Conveniently positioned atop Hommachi Station on the subway's Midosuji Line, the hotel provides easy access to Shin-Osaka station and Namba, making it an ideal base for exploring Osaka as well as nearby cities such as Kyoto, Nara, and Hiroshima.
The building was designed by the acclaimed Japanese architecture firm Nikken Sekkei , whose approach combined multiple elements — modern and traditional, East and West, understated luxury and bespoke craftsmanship — to create a property that feels both exclusive and comfortable. The interior design was entrusted to GA Design International (G.A Group), whose work was recognized in 2014 as Best Hotel Interior – Asia Pacific at the Asia-Pacific Property Awards, and also as Best International Hotel Interior at the International Property Awards. The design concept pays homage to the golden age of Japanese history — the Momoyama period — an era of hope, prosperity and harmony, when Japan opened trade between the East and the West, a period that still carries deep emotional resonance for the Japanese people. The brief was to create a hotel in keeping with Colonel John Jacob Astor IV's vision for a new style of luxury, with interiors that reflect the atmosphere of a luxurious private residence rather than a conventional hotel. Evocative colors and lighting were used to play with the concept of moon and sun, which runs as a theme throughout the entire property.
Guests arrive through an entrance hall of silver leaf, bronze, and dark marble, anchored by a sculptural crystal tree. This softly lit moment gives way to brighter, sunlit spaces that reveal expansive views of the city and the hotel's private Japanese garden. The St. Regis Bar is conceived as a richly layered environment with deep turquoise panelling, blue tiger's eye stone, and lacquered finishes, featuring a commissioned mural with subtle references to Osaka Castle and imagined celestial motifs.
In terms of facilities, the hotel's 160 rooms and suites are furnished with over 50-inch HDTVs, walk-in closets, and bathrooms with Japanese-style bathtubs, while carefully selected art and ceramics, fine finishes, and Kyoto silks accentuate the contemporary interiors. Each headboard is crafted from Kawashima silk and displays motifs of ginkgo and cherry blossom, symbols of Osaka and Japan. Dining options include Rue d'Or, La Veduta, and Teppanyaki Wajo, alongside the exclusive IRIDIUM featuring SOTHYS Spa, and the iconic 12th-floor terrace with sweeping vistas of the Osaka skyline. The hotel also offers a ballroom and banquet hall, stationary bikes and treadmills, and is conveniently situated near Hommachi tube station. Every stay is elevated by the signature St. Regis Butler Service, available any time, day or night.
