Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris

Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris. One of the symbols of Paris, the Cathedral of Notre-Dame was reopened this Saturday completely restored, more than 5 years after a devastating fire.

In a moment of great emotion at the site, guests welcomed with applause the firefighters who worked to contain the fire at Notre-Dame. There were no recorded fatalities resulting from the fire.

In his reopening speech for the Cathedral, President Emmanuel Macron paid tribute to the work done to recover the cathedral. The head of state expressed the "gratitude of the French nation to all those who saved, helped, and rebuilt Notre-Dame de Paris."

The renovation project for Notre-Dame cost around 700 million euros (approximately R$ 4.4 billion). The funding came from around the world, including from French billionaires in the luxury sector, such as François Henri Pinault and the Arnault family.

From the tower to the stained glass windows, it has been completely transformed. It was not just a restoration after the fire, but a complete overhaul, including the removal of decades of accumulated debris and soot since the last restoration.

The most striking feature of the restored cathedral is the brightness of the stones. This is because all the limestone blocks were cleaned or, in some areas, replaced.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991, Notre-Dame is one of the main symbols of Paris and one of the most famous cathedrals in the world.

It is considered a masterpiece of Gothic medieval architecture, being one of the most beloved monuments frequented by tourists visiting the French capital. It captivates with its ribbed vaults, flying buttresses, stunning stained glass, and intricately carved stone gargoyles.
