Architect Jan Störmer’s glass and steel façade tower 12 stories above Hamburg – nestled in an area of the city where classy urban chic meets established normality.

The SIDE Hotel's atrium lobby is encased by frosted glass, stretching eight stories high like a luminescent sliver between skyscrapers. A computer system, which controls the entire lighting of the hotel, orchestrates a very "now" lightshow in the atrium, which was exclusively developed by visionary theatre director Robert Wilson. A focal point for arriving guests and as a "dressing up" of an otherwise spartan space, the installation extends across multiple levels to the ceiling, pulsating an ever-changing play of intensity that follows the natural course of daylight.

Hovering above the futuristic atrium is the 8th floor sky lounge, where Milan designer Matteo Thun suggests weightlessness with improbably curved furniture and floating disk lighting. Stretching even further beyond, the SIDE's lounge terrace presents a panoramic view across both Hamburg’s gritty port and its genteel lakes. Test-sittings on Thun’s orange and blue furnishings for Rossi di Albizzate are welcome anytime – whether to admire the contemporary lightshow or simply to take a breather. Against the backdrop of Matteo Thun’s sober minimalism, the interior is softened by voluptuously round furnishings and natural touches. Every piece of furniture and decorative element has been painstakingly selected or specially developed as part of the overall design concept of SIDE, a superconcept of sorts.

Buttery creams and sumptuous browns are the soothing canvas in guest rooms against which the Italian designer cleverly juxtaposes public areas using, again carefully selected, splashes of garish colour: On ground level, bright red leather seating and lush velvets are set against natural stone flooring in the "fusion" bar. Going deeper underground, the energetic orange of the gym infuses it with warmth and the mellow yellow in the restorative spa treatment rooms paints a perfect picture contrasting with the fresh blue colour scheme of the swimming pool area.

Roomers Frankfurt, Germany

Classic curves meet progressive design at Roomers, an ambitious new venture in Frankfurt, Germany’s business capital. With its gleaming glass façade set in specially glazed white concrete, Hotel Roomers is a glossy snapshot into the city it inhabits: all timeless charm, clean lines and modern architecture.

Conceptualised by Grübel, an architectural firm best known for its sleek work with BMW, and Romanian designer Oana Rosen, Roomers is an elegantly futuristic five-storey hotel full of electrifying design flourishes, such as an illuminated bubble-domed wellness centre emblazoned with ivy etchings. Formerly a quaint office building, Roomers Frankfurt has now morphed into the exact opposite: a fresh, cosy space full of swirling dark colours interpreted in new ways.

Through its strategic use of bright colours and leather upholstery, the lobby now looks more like a posh Japanese club than what was once the entrance to a workplace. The 112 guestrooms are decorated in the seemingly contradictory style of indulgent minimalism, but when these two concepts meet, the effect is superb. Continuing the modern theme are the four conference areas in Roomers’ illuminated top level. Kitted out with the chicest accoutrements, these luxurious business rooms can accommodate up to 80 people. Oana Rosen, who previously took Frankfurt by storm when she lent her creative hand to the ultramodern hotel The Pure, has created another conceptual yet wholly enjoyable hotel. Located just minutes away from the river Main, visitors would be hard pressed to find a better backdrop to relax and indulge in the city of Frankfurt.

Gerbermuhle's design respects the property's history but also takes a leap into modernity with the latest design and technology.

The lobby features exposed beams and mezzanines that suggest a stylized version of the innards of a massive skyscraper, while the bar features old stone walls and riveted leather furniture. The Gerbermuhle’s old postbeam construction is never hidden, but is painted to match various rooms’ colour schemes, in a nod to sleek contemporaneity. The 13 rooms and 5 suites of Gerbermuhle all feature parquet floors and flat-screen TVs.  Gerbermühle Restaurant is a renowned dining establishment located in Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany. Situated on the banks of the Main River, the restaurant is housed in a historic building that dates back to the 16th century, adding to its charm and character. Gerbermühle has established a reputation for offering exquisite cuisine, blending traditional German flavors with modern techniques.
