Romeo Hotel in Naples, Italy

The Romeo Hotel stands at the border between sea and city; its aesthetic model exists at the border between modernity and tradition. Conceived by renowned architect Kenzo Tange and created by his son Paul, the Italian hotel is a synthesis of old and new, elegance and cosiness, ornamentation and simplicity. Tange’s ultimate goal was to marry beauty with comfort – a feat he achieved throughout the Romeo premises, creating a harmony of contrasts that simultaneously embraces the latest technological developments and the most traditional of Neapolitan elements. A key ingredient in bringing together these diverse influences was the consistent use of the finest materials, fabrics and furnishings: the Romeo is outfitted with Tabu wood floors, reflecting impact glass surfaces, embroidered Caprai linens, precious marbles, elegant cashmeres, B&B furniture by Antonio Citterio, leather objects by Tramontano, exclusive pieces by Frau, Hermes chairs upholstered with crocodile skin and original Philippe Starck sofas. These exist in alluring tension with a scattered selection of rare period furniture dating from the 14th to 17th centuries, which endow the hotel with an air of venerable refinement. The overall effect is to create an atmosphere of exclusive sophistication.

This atmosphere is embellished by the impressive array of contemporary art on display throughout the hotel. Some of the world’s most celebrated artists and designers created works specifically for the Romeo, including Francesco Clemente, Lello Esposito, Sergio Fermariello and pop artist Mario Schifano. The hotel’s event and meeting spaces even feature a permanent exhibition of the works of eight world-renowned Neapolitan photographers asked to celebrate their extraordinary city through the lenses of their cameras.
